The surprise in every UK budget is the Immigration Health Surcharge. It is ₹87,000 per year of the visa (£776 per year of the visa), and it is paid upfront for the whole visa length. For a 15-month visa, that means roughly ₹1.1L paid in one go before you buy a plane ticket.
That is why you should not compare the UK only on tuition. A taught master's usually costs ₹16L – ₹43L (£14,000 – £38,000) for one year, and living costs add another ₹13L – ₹17L (£12,000 – £15,000) a year, with London the outlier. Budget tuition + IHS + ₹15L living as your floor. If you want the full country-by-country view, start with our UK study abroad guide.
This is the first reason families choose the UK, and also the first reason some should walk away: it suits students who can fund the year properly, not students hoping rent will be covered by part-time work.
