If you are stuck between IELTS and TOEFL, start here: New Zealand universities do not use one single English score for every course. For most applicants, the real question is not which test is "better", but which test your provider accepts for your exact programme.
The verified score ranges on our guide are simple: IELTS Academic is 6.0 – 6.5 overall, PTE Academic is 50 – 58, and TOEFL iBT is 60 – 90. For postgraduate study, IELTS can be 6.5 with no band below 6.0. The score bar changes by course level and sometimes by faculty, so always check the offer page before booking a test.
